Salesman Driving Tips
Many salesman depend on their vehicle to perform their job. Constant travel from location to location, at times even across state lines. Such lengthy travel requires more discipline than your typical city driving. Take a moment to read the following tips if you frequently undertake lengthy drives in your profession.
Please plan your drive wisely. Give yourself more time than you think you may need. If it is an extremely long distance, divide your driving time if allowed. If you are driving in the summer remember to keep hydrated and keep cool. Driving is a weary task so attempt to keep yourself entertained, preferably with music.
It’s absolutely essential that you make sure your vehicle is adequately prepared for a lengthy drive before embarking on one! If anything is broken make sure to take it to a mechanic before the drive. You do not want to be left stranded in the middle of nowhere. Have the vehicle checked, replace tires if necessary, and make sure the AC functions properly.
Know the territory and surroundings. If you can read up or research information pertaining to the areas you will drive through it can help you immensely. Prepare for the unexpected. If the bear population is high, for instance, be sure to be mindful of where you place your food and trash while parked. Always think “Better safe than sorry”.
Before you leave on your business trip inform a relative or a friend so that someone is aware of what route you’re taking. If possible, have someone check up on you at timed increments or you yourself call in at rest stops. Which leads us to the next tip- be well rested!
Coffee and energy shots can only do so much. Don’t test your limits, if you are tired pull over and take a nap. Sleeping for 30 mins can go a long way.
